A Novelty Detection Approach to Diagnose Damage in a Cracked Beam

چکیده
In this article, an implementation of the so-called "novelty detection" method to monitor damage in structures is proposed. Whereas conventional damage identiication procedures have the limitation of requiring a suuciently precise mathematical model of the structure , the novelty detection approach requires no "a priori" model, making the method more applicable to systems of arbitrary complexity. The method, which is described in detail, has been applied to a cantilevered beam with a closing crack simulated by using a non-linear Finite Element model. The eeects of measurement noise on the performance of the method has been analysed and sensitivity of the method to structural alterations assessed.

CRACK DETECTION IN CONCRETE BEAM USING OPTIMIZATION METHOD
Structural damage detection is a field that has attracted a great interest in the scientific community in recent years. Most of these studies use dynamic analysis data of the beams as a diagnostic tool for damage. In this paper, a massless rotational spring was used to represent the cracked sections of beams and the natural frequencies and mode shape were obtained. For calculation of rotational...

A finite element model based on the layerwise theory is developed for the analysis of transverse cracking in cross-ply laminated beams. The numerical model is developed using the layerwise theory of Reddy, and the von Kármán type nonlinear strain field is adopted to accommodate the moderately large rotations of the beam. The finite element beam model is verified by comparing the present numeric...

Damage detection has been focused by researchers because of its importance in engineering practices. Therefore, different approaches have been presented to detect damage location in structures. However, the higher the accuracy of methods is required the more complex deliberations. Based on the conventional studies, it was observed that the damage locations and its size are associated with dynam...
متن کاملA Simple Finite Element Procedure for Free Vibration and Buckling Analysis of Cracked Beam-Like Structures
In this study, a novel and very simple finite element procedure is presented for free vibration and buckling analysis of slim beam-like structures damaged by edge cracks. A cracked region of a beam is modeled using a very short element with reduced second moment of area (I). For computing reduced I in a cracked region, the elementary theory of bending of beams and local flexibility approach are...

During the past few decades, a significant amount of research has been conducted in the area of non-destructive damage evaluation (NDE) based on changes in dynamic properties of a structure. System Identification and damage detection plays a crucial role in structural dynamics and vibro-acoustic system optimization. The later approach is based on the ‘Modal Analysis” The dynamic behaviors of th...
